Our new designed and purpose-built veterinary premises are located at Unit E3 Stafford
Park 15 in Telford. While the location may be slightly unusual when compared to
some older practices, the benefits are enormous:
- Easy access from virtually anywhere in Telford and surrounding areas via the Randlay
interchange on the A442 or junction 4 of the M54.
- Easy access for disabled clients
through the rear entrance - including undercover disembarking within the building
if required (please telephone first).
- The rest of the premises are completely
wheelchair accessible including a dedicated disabled toilet.
- Collapsed large
pets can be delivered in the same way directly onto a waiting trolley within the
building if necessary.
- Ample free parking is always available.
- No busy
roads to negotiate with frightened pets.
Within the building, design features have ensured a clean, airy, well lit surgery
that is welcoming for both client and pet alike: standards that exceed those of
many ‘human’ hospitals and without a doubt you won’t wait as long!
In the reception area, either Rhian or Abby will welcome you (and probably give
your pet a hug) and register any new clients or pets on our computerized record
system. This system enables us to ensure all the relevant information and history
is recorded on your pet’s file for future reference and that timely reminders for
vaccinations and other regular treatments can be sent to you - either via e-mail,
text alerts or the postal service. Digital scales are available in reception for
you to keep an eye on your pet’s weight whenever suits you.
The main consulting room leads off the reception area and is equipped with various
diagnostic instruments to enable a full examination of your pet. Vaccinations, microchips
and other simple procedures are performed in this room. A 2nd consulting room is
available and will be used by the nurses for consultations and information on nutrition
and other advice if you do not need to see the veterinary surgeon.
Should any further hospitalization, laboratory tests, radiographs (x-rays), or surgery
be required, your pet would then move through to our hospital and prep area. The
high quality stainless steel cages are in this area – including a walk-in kennel
for the comfort and ease of treatment of very large dogs. Stainless steel is fantastic
from a point of view of cleanliness but can be cold - especially for animals recovering
from anaesthetics, so an innovative under-cage heating system has been installed
to provide optimum temperatures and further comfort. Products designed to calm pets
are used extensively in this area and can be seen diffusing into the atmosphere
whenever animals are hospitalized. A high speed air-driven dental unit and a tub
table for shaving and aseptically preparing animals for surgery are also situated
in this area.
A dedicated imaging suite with lead lined walls and a high frequency radiograph
unit with automatic film processor provides high quality radiographs should they
be necessary. This modern unit ensures low level radiation to further increase patient
safety should multiple radiographs be required.
The operating theatre again contains modern equipment including a gas anaesthetic
delivery system which is renowned for its fast and safe action as well as a pulse
oximeter which helps to monitor animals while under anaesthesia and indicate any
problems as soon as possible to further enhance the safety of any procedure. An
air extraction system in this room provides a slight negative air pressure which
helps to remove airborne bacteria, viruses and dust that may contaminate surgical
sites and operating equipment.
Our laboratory has the latest blood testing equipment which provides rapid on site
testing of haematology and biochemistry as well as equipment to assist in urine
and faecal analysis and microscopic examination of various samples. Close collaboration
with a dedicated veterinary laboratory also ensures rapid results for more complex
tests including rabies tests for issuing of new Pet Passports and other pet export
requirements.
A separate isolation unit houses any animals with potentially infectious diseases
and also has an air extraction system to prevent high levels of airborne pathogens
re-infecting the main hospital.
A second operating theatre, instrument cleaning and sterilizing room, office, kitchen
and toilets (including disabled toilets) complete the internal area. Large under
cover and fenced open air areas at the back of the premises provide large, safe
exercise areas for recuperating and hospitalized patients.
We would love to take you on a brief tour of the premises if you have a chance as
we are all extremely proud of our facilities.
